DREAM CITY COMMUNITY RESPONSES
09/28/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
A city and region that first meets or is vigorously striving to meet the basic needs of ALL its citizens. That is basic housing, a secure local food supply (local farms, farmers markets, many community vegetable gardens), renewable, affordable energy and affordable health care for all to name a few.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I like best the fact that this dialogue (DreamCity) is finally starting. I am very glad that we are now on the path. Let's hope that we all can put dialogue into action.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
It was moments and it happened just this year. The many fine agencies and organizations that are sponsoring events (Green Fairs, visionary speakers, etc.) to help move this city into a sustainable and friendly lifestyle.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
a continuation of a larger dump Colorado Springs has already become.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
anywhere that is out of here.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
when unemployment is high, and people refuse to hire me.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
My vision is for Manitou Springs to establish a sister-city partnership with Taos, NM to exchange ideas about how to create a vital arts community. It's important to listen to what representatives from successful arts communities have to teach us. We must include people in the process, it isn't only about board members and individuals running arts organizations. Art is for the people, by the people; the organizations only help foster art and community participation.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
Culturally, it has potential and I believe our region will thrive in the arts if we want it too.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
When I wrote the very first successful grant for the Manitou Springs Arts Council. It was exciting to realize my goal of really helping the arts council offer monetary compensation to artists for their contributions to Manitou Springs "Art on the Avenue" project.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
Hi it's me again. I would just like to add one more question. it doesn't have too much to do with Pikes Peak, but it affects who lives here. I know a lot of people who have parents either going to war or in war. but the thing is that I know people don't like to go around saying there parent might not come home. But sadly it's thrue. but the problem is that. Nobodies doing anything about it. People just say "Oh, ya, don't you just hate that war in Iraq?" But why not speak up for yourself dont' just tell them show them. help the victims feel more at home. Control your future and vote for president. Now I bet you didn't know this but less than 50% of America plans on voting for president. This is our country and that isn't going to change. But if you don't like sometning than change it or at least try to. We can all change somrhting. No matter how small!
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I like tha twhen i look out ay wi ndo I see some what nature and Pikes Peak. Not pollution and smoke stacks. And when it snows it's different than the snow any where else. And after a while it doesn't turn black and grows like in other pplaces. I love oit here!!!!!
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Everyne can connect like one big family. One time I was shopping with my mom. We past an iasle were there was a lady in a wheel chair who dropped something on the other side of the aisle. So y brother and I start to hea down there to help her. Not even two seconds later there were whole bunch of people offering to help her. she seemed happy and thank full that she could live in such a friendly place. and then not to long ago my family and I were getting dinner when I notice somehting black and shiny on the ground I wasn't sure what it was. so I told my family I'd be rght back and as I got closer it looked like a cell phone. So i started to walk faster and once i got to it picked it up. Then a lady saw me so she told me i should take to the front desk and they would figure it out. but i wasn't sure what they were going to do. It's not like I was planning on just walking off with it. That would of been just rong!!! But when i toook it to the front desk they got it all figured out and a man came in and thanked me so much. but the rewared was seeing that look in his eyes. It felt amazing to know what i had done.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
Mike Miles, Harrison District Superintendentâ??s excellent suggestions were addressed to investing in public education. I want to reach much further than he has on the uses of technologies he mentioned.
As far back as 1985 I assisted one room schools in Montana connect up the minds of students and teachers via primitive computers, modems, bulletin board software and ordinary telephone lines to each other and even to physicists at MIT who taught some students and their isolated teachers the math and physics of chaos â?? all online. All before the Internet or digital wireless existed.
Todayâ??s potential has to be harnessed to new ways of thinking by teachers, superintendents, parents and especially their School Boards
about the relevance of education to the future nature of work not just study. Rather than just focusing on the model of fixed 12 years of educations followed by 2 or 4 years of college, schools must be preparation for lifelong learning and teaching by all. Continuous K-99 not just periodic K-12. With teachers facilitating that, and not just imparting a singular subject the teacher has mastered, but also teaching the students how to â??learnâ?? using the new tools of self education.
The learning environment needs to reinforce during the formative years of young peopleâ??s minds the habits of, not only learning, but of how work is already being done globally.
For the last 300 years American public school education was largely based on putting a â??classâ?? of students of roughly equal abilities in a room in a school â??buildingâ?? with one teacher in front of them all. It was actually based on the Industrial Age model of â??workersâ?? doing what a â??foremanâ?? â?? teacher - told them, and used their learned skills to carry out the task at hand â?? homework, or production line work - all in one room, one building, one town. No more.
Increasingly â??workâ?? is globally remote, collaborative, distributive, non-hirearchical. I contend students should learn, and teach others (yes, students teach other students â?? there is no better way to learn a subject than to try and teach it â?? at any age) using the modes of work for learning.
That takes learning â??self disciplineâ?? not just classroom outer conformity. By stressing the requirement to complete tasks â?? â??homeworkâ?? if you will â?? rather than just stress in-classroom control of behavior and uniformity. That can be learned, practiced, just as well from home, a library, a separate study place, or on a mountain top!
To support that I think every public school in the Pikes Region should be equipped with an unlicensed (no per-minute costs ala cell phones) wireless network with antennas on the roof. Over which the minds of students can travel to and from the teacher, other students - doing collaborative study, and the world at large. Every student and teacher within the radius of thatâ??s school studentâ??s population â?? it never is more than a few miles â?? should be awarded â?? by the school district â?? a portable personal computer, printer, and digital radio! Which, via free wireless mesh technology (goes around buildings) can access the school, its internal educational network, library of resources, and a supervised connection to the outside Internet which can be used by every student and teacher 24/7. That is today technologically trivial. I maintain fully affordable. But how its used will take the hard work by the schools with open minded teachers, administrators, boards, and parents. Even students can help.
Where would the money come from? Partly by savings from another radical proposition. I do not think that the entire student body should be required to arrive at a school building lock-step, sit on seats for 6 hours, and then â??go home.â?? They should not be required to â??attendâ?? school 5 days a week but 4 or even 3 at the highest grades with by then self-disciplined students. I can assure you that if a School District did NOT have to have pay for the construction of a school building designed to accommodate 100% of the student population sitting for only 6 hours a day, only 5 days a week, and only school weeks, the savings would be far more than the total cost of the technology for all!
These are just a few suggestions from my 26 yearâ??s experience doing just what I suggest above, from Montana and Nepal to Mongolia.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
It will be over populated. There will be that one person that will take a stand and fight for the best of our beautiful city. I picture more convenient transportation for the elderly and more landscape. All these empty buildings will be filled with some type of business.
Air will be cleaner and we all will breathe better.
The education system will be more informative and the children would be more willing to learn. The good will over populate the bad. I would be 64 years old and I would trust the senior citizen homes. I really believe in our community and the people that live in it. We are truly blessed.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The mountains and the scenery. We have a lot of events and places to see and visit. We do need more parking spaces for these events.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I was born in Colorado and raised in Colorado Springs so I am automatically connected and I feel it all the time. I am very proud to tell people that I am from the Springs. My best connection is the 4th of July fire works in our back yard with the grandchildren, we could see all of the locations of the fireworks.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I would like to say I see my community wealthy with happiness, but I see broken families and victims from Iraq. I see pollution and forests being ripped away for our own selfishness. The Earth only has a certain amount of resources. We know that so why do we keep using them all? What will we do once there all gone? Why do we jusst say and hope it wont happen now? happen to us. Even though we don't know for sure? I would hope to see people leaping out of there way to help a strasnger. Everyone soring as fast as they can to help our country, to help Pikes Peak. And i would like to help. I Kacey. So thank you for helping our nation even the little things.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
What I like best about the Pikes peak region is looking around. Wondering who has walked here and who will walk here. Loving were I live but at the same time wondering what it would be like living somewere else.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I felt the best connection with my community when I'm sad or upset and it helps cheer me up. Wether it's the people or Pikes Peak itself.
09/18/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
To see more responsible public transportation, with trolleys becoming more prevalent, going from downtown to all sections of the city, Light Rail to Pueblo, Manitou Springs, Woodland Park and more use of windmills, solar power on every rooftop, introduction of fuel cells for homes, and low income housing, for starters
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
open space, parks and the people with the mountains
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
America the beautiful park, kids splashing in the fountain

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
Since I'm close to retirement age it would be nice to build some affordable senior citizen condos in downtown Colorado Springs. Something that'll asthectically fit into the area and not look like what it is.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The beautiful mountains of course, and the weather.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I walk 3 miles almost every day with my neighbor around CottonWood Park. One beautiful evening there were many families enjoying picnics and watching their children play. It gave me a real sense of community.
09/14/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
An intelligently planned, vibrant downtown scene that attracts the community 24/7 is essential, with transportation that links all areas. Unfortunately, just the opposite is happening, so I don't see much success in the future.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The libraries are very good, despite their prejudiced HR policies. I like that outdoor activities are so close by, so that we can go fishing and hiking on the spur of the moment. I like Pikes Peak despite the looming presence that contributes to the suicide rate; for me its a good daily reminder of the forces of nature.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
As an older person, I don't get out that much. Events that I can take grandkids to that are fun and educational help create both a familial bond as well as a bond to the community.
09/14/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I would hope that we will start to realize the assets we have with the mountains and capitalize on view corridors. I would like to see greater attention to green connectivity, transit opportunities, redevelopment and less need for the automobile.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The natural amenities and views of the mountains.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Working with City Planning Staff on Committees and getting involved in local homeowners association.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
My vision is that Colorado Springs is that the pine beatle kill will destroy our environment and the whole town will look like an arrid desert.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I like being able to go up on top of Pikes Peak and enjoy nature.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I really haven't been able to get a connect with my community
09/11/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
No more expansion to the east. Those folks all have lawns. Burger King, Taco Bell and folks transforming the landscape to sod should be ashamed. We need hardware stores, appliance stores that serve the people of downtown Colorado Springs and the Westside. Stop building east. It is amazing that south of downtown, i.e. Barney's area is so dilapidated. It is also disappointing how there are more bars then shops in town. Please revitalize. Stop giving building loans, actually rent something in the Garden of the Gods and Centennial Area. Do not allow more building until the vacancies are filled.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
Access to trails and National Forest.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Fountain Creek Stream Restoration in Manitou Springs. Of course gold hill mesa and the city's storm water enterprise completely undo all of the efforts of a strong, environmental, community. They have repeatedly straightened the channel and ruined ALL fish and wildlife habitat. Shame on them.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
My vision for my community in 2020 would be one in which 'all' are involved. We participate. We give of our 'gifts', talents, experience, hopes, and dreams. We are able to have small communities that are connected as a 'neighborhood' which are culturally connected to the Pikes Peak regional community. We come to know each other. We are 'all' included in some way. Our city expresses our cultural heritage past, present, and future through our children, ourselves, and our elders. Our children know they have a voice, and are able to express their vision for the future as well as understand how to take responsibility in making a difference.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
We moved here to be closer to family one year ago in august of 2007. Our daughter and her boyfriend traveled to Colorado six years ago. They are married with a three year old son, and another baby on the way in the next few weeks. Our youngest daughter has Down Syndrome, and has been welcomed into an exceptional learning community at Manitou Springs Elementary School. She is fully included in her third grade classroom. We love walking to the library, school, and through out the town of Manitou Springs. We love how engaged our neighbors are in their community. Our daughter has an opportunity to thrive. People are aware of needed improvements regarding issues of concern, yet we are experiencing a willingness from people to be involved and make a difference.I love the mountains! They inspire me, and draw me toward community because they draw out the best from my heart's desire!
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
My best moments are growing up in a relatively small community. I lived fifteen houses from my elementary school. I walked home for lunch. I went to the same school district elementary, junior high, and High School.
I went to the annual local fair at the recreational park, played there, and ice skated there in the winter. We played outside in the neighborhood until the street lights came on.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I would like to have enough food to eat and notgo to bed hungry and have services for my disabled child and other children.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
A citizenery protecting our amazingly beautiful physical environment and expanding outreach to one another to create beneficial relationships and enhancing the movement to bring back front porch sitting and neighborly communication.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
Our exceptional physical environment, 350 days of sunshine and the upcoming movement to plan for the future of our community.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Warm summer nights where young and old gather at America the Beautiful Park to cool off in the Continuum Fountain, listen to up-beat music, watch children tumbling down a grassy hill, dogs chasing frisbees, parents and kids flying kites and playing ball. That says community to me!
09/02/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
Having the city merge on teh basis of arts and education as one. Having people be exposed to the arts and it being an artists mecca like bigger cities around country.Especially since this is such a diverse city with the military and Olympics center calling this city home.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The Natural beauty and the potentional for this city to be great in the arts and culture like others.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
When I perform and expose community to the Culture. Lots of people are so unaware and are yearnong to find out more about what we do and our culture.
09/02/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
There will be continued investment in the "commons," places we all enjoy as a community: parks (like America the Beautiful and Acacia Park with Uncle Wilber), bike trails, open space preserves, and the progressive sprucing up of downtown (a la Manitou Springs). It will be a place where liberals, conservatives and the radical middle alike all feel at home. Technology and tourism (our historical bread and butter) bring the bright, the educated and the creative folks from around the globe.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I can ride my bike out my front door and within three miles be on some of the best trails on the Front Range. I can drive a bit further and walk above timberline. How cool is that?
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Skiing at night as a child on the Broadmoor ski run, I distinctly remember being struck by the city lights spreading out below me. Of course we all want to live here, I thought; it's hard to not be inspired by such a uniquely beautiful place.
08/31/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
Less people moving here from out of state. These morons move in & start sprouting off about lack of this & that, how bad the traffic is & the continual whining of "When I lived in Texas, or Calif. or Florida, the city/county/state govt. did it this way". WHO CARES?!??? You don't like the way things are done here in Colorado Springs, go back to where you came from. I moved here from Calif. 25 yrs. ago & I have no desire to see any resemblance. Colorado Springs was a small town when I moved here & I want to keep it like that.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
How close the mountains are to my front door.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
About 2 yrs. ago, my daughter was at practice session at a park on the westside of town. It was about 2 pm on a sunny day & I was facing east at the time. For some reason, I turned to the southwest & was looking at Cheyenne Mountain from that that direction & it really blew me away. Upclose & personal, it was a picture postcard. I got a lump in my throat & an immense feeling of pride in my heart.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
One of tolerance and embracing of differences. One that takes responsibility to ensure that all have access to the basics: transportation, education, health care. One that takes our beautiful environment seriously: it's a gift that should be protected!
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The natural environment. Manitou Springs - because it's a REAL and complete community.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Manitou Springs' events: Ascent/Marathon, Preservation Awards, Farmers' Market, etc.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
My ideal vision of this community in 2020 would be one where people take responsibility for their actions, help to pay for what needs done, and aren't always looking for the City Government to give them a handout. The government is designed to improve this community, however, the citizens are the ones who have to band together and start funding these improvements. Quit blaming the City Administration for all the ills in the community and look to the real culprits. The ones who claim to be working for you when in fact they are just working for themselves.
This vision would also include a community where there is tolerance of people's differences. Where the spiritual leaders of the community were showing compassion for all and equality for all, rather than quoting bible verses and spewing hatred for those that are different. Hypocrisy would be non existent in churches.
Finally, I'd like to see a City Council that actually governed something rather than sticking their heads in the sand and pretending nothing is wrong. Make some tough decisions and tell the constituates that times are hard and this is the way things need to be done. Council needs to quit focusing on their individual pet projects/topics and think of the City as a whole.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The mountains, animals, weather.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
It is hard to connect with a community that is disconnected.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I hope by 2020 Colorado Springs "catches up" with other cities that have embraced thier urbanism! Let's WALK a little and create more greenways and even pay folks to use alternative transportation like Portland does. I hope we continue to create more community gardens and people can become more self sufficient. I hope all of those suburban sprawl neighborhoods at least begin to beautify the landscape. I'd like to see more events focused on Arts, music, and environment, and less events wanting us buying things made in
China. I hope our schools can become more community based, doing projects and teaching students responsibility for the planet and for eachother.Collaboration is so important if this city is ever going to change, everyone needs to be less judgemental and begin working for the common good of the community. There is a lot of diversity here and we could be very strong if we all embraced it!
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The weather, plants, and outdoor activities.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
Uhhh....It's been very challenging here. But when I became involved with solidarity of Hope!
08/25/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
What I would like is way different from the way it will be, no doubt. I envision one of the ugliest looking suburban sprawls, with ticky-tacky, unlandscaped houses of the cheapest construction, built inches away from each other and inches from the streets, so you can savor the aroma of carbon monoxide and enjoy the b-b-b-boom boxes. Plastic bags will hang from almost every shrub & tree limb, and fast food refuse will be strewn strewn everywhere, kind of like it is today,
only much worse. Of course, there will be no viable employment in Colorado Springs, and the number of junk-food establishments will quadruple. Everyone will be able to work at places which want to offer only 20-hour a week jobs.
Bus service will remain the same, making it possible to reach your destination in a record 2 hours!
In 2020, 16 to 20 year olds will be the largest group of drunks, and most of them will be packing heat. The Tabor amendement will remain firmly in place, so CoSpgs will have it's own City Lotto and weekly bake sales and bingo games to raise money. The Gazette will continue to tell people that they are truly living in paradise.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The climate; the bluest of blue skies
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I have lived here since 1987 and I can say with a lot of sadness that the only connection I have ever felt here has been when I can take a stroll around Manitou or in Old Colorado city, or maybe a walk in a park. It's too bad that you have to drive somewhere to take a walk. The measure of a real city is is walkability. This burg just doesn't cut it.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I have two visions of this city in the next 12 years. A city that continues to have a financial crisis and high crime rate. Or, a city that takes action to increase revenue, reduce crime, and stops the spread of closing business's and eye sores working it's way north from Drennan Road. Honestly, I see not much change in Colorado Springs by 2020. Monument, Colorado will see increased population as people move north to escape the deterating security and negitive image that is spreading rapidly.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I see a community where people feel good about the area and the people around them. I see groups sharing their culture, their ideas, their passions and everyone honoring and accepting those things that bring diversity to the world. I see people working together to support each other.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
The People are the best thing about the region. We are so full of dreams, imagination, and creativity. And then the beauty that surrounds us from the mountains, to the skies, to the trees and plants and of course the animals that continue to amaze me.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I experienced a tough year as I journeyed through cancer, chemo, radiation, etc. and the best connection I felt for this community was all the support I received from family, friends, medical staff members, volunteers, and complete stranger who didn't have anything to do with any of the above groups.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
My vision isn't a good one and will be rejected by many nay sayers. But unless this city gets it's hands around the crime, crowded roads (with ruds drivers) and control the population growth things will only get worse. This city will easily surpass the 1,000,000 mark for population and population growth breeds crime. This city will be known as San Francisco Springs, Mexiforado
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I would be lying if I were to say there was anything best about this region.
Describe a moment when you felt the best connection to your community.
I've never felt connected in the fours years that I've lived here. Colorado Springs says "We Create Community" but I've never seen anyone from the military in that commercial. Sure certain people appreciate the military but I bet you money a larger part of the population wishes we weren't here.
08/14/08
What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I have an attainable vision for Colorado Springs in the year 2020. Every year CS seems to get better and better. Our guests, community members and children are amazed at year old "America the Beautiful Park, and fountain." Our children may also play in Uncle Wilbur's Fountain at no charge. I would like to see more public works, that add beauty and community spirit to our city.
One of my particular wishes is to build a Shakespeare Garden, in our town, formerly known as Little London. Currently the biggest Shakespeare garden in the state is in Boulder, and is only about 1/8 of an acre. We can easily outdo that.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I love the yearly temperatures, and the fact that there is little humidity. I love the glorious views of the mountains. I am happy that people from all walks of life can find recreation, culture and enjoyment right here in town. I am glad that it doesn't 'look' big-city, but it has everything a big city has. When I walk down the street, people smile.

I am a former graduate and president of the board for Partners in Housing, which has been recognized many times by our city, state and nation for its fine work with homeless people. When I went through a very hard time, the people of CS cared enough to help me solve my problems.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
This community has a lot of tolerance, but i would love to see it have even more. I would love to see people care deeply about preserving the unique resources of our region and of the Earth in general.
I would like to live in a community where sustainably grown products were not special, they were the norm; where wind and solar energy were the standard; where green and eco-friendly products were the norm; where public transportation was easily usable and affordable for anyone, and discounted further for the elderly, low income, disabled, and students. I woudl like to live in a city that didn't feel the need to continue growth to survive - at some point browth ceases to be beneficial and becomes a cancer.
I would like to live in a community where no matter the size of the city people truely treated their neighbors like NEIGHBORS - making a casserole for someone ill, borrowing an egg for a recipie, offerring a ride simply as a matter of course.
Finally, I would like to see the Springs area realize what a huge pool of diverse artisans we ahve in the area and appreciate them - visual artists, performing artists, writers, poets - the artistic community in the Springs has so much to offer, but is often so invisible. I woudl love to see dance troupes invited to perform at city functions, farmers markets, big events and small ones; art displayed in coffee shops and bars and malls and libraries; muscians given the opportunity to play for big events and small ones.
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?

No one had to go to any extreme they didn;t wish to, everyoen was accepted just for attending.

What is your vision for your community in 2020?
I would love to see a more vibrant, diverse, upscale downtown. Something besides Bars. I am a huge fan of Dance, Film, Jazz or Lounge acts(where are performance spaces)? As Colorado Springs is a very outdoorsy city, I would like more "Green"ways and walking/cycling/pedestrian paths in the main parts of the city. Bicycle lanes on the streets. I would like to feel safe in the many amenities in the city at all hours of the day and night(Prospect Lake, Memorial Park, Palmer Park, Downtown). An improved public transportation system, as I am a pedestrian and my life shouldn't have to stop at 7pm. More upscale shopping!!! There are people in Colorado Springs that have money and taste that would support a more fashionable retailor!!! I remember the Denver and Fashion Bar. Not everyone is interested in Target, K-Mart, Dillards and Walmart! Maybe a Drugstore or Grocerystore close to downtown!!!
What do you like best about the Pikes Peak region?
I love the "anyone is welcome" feeling I get when I am there. You can be a normal person. Be it a Granola Liberal, a Conservative, Law Enforcement, an Athlete, a Liberal Arts Scholar, a Christian, a Party Girl, a Military family, a Technology Geek, a Stoner, a Goth Artist, a Working Class Dog.

I recently attended the Gay Pride Festival and was suprised by the turnout. There were a few protesters but even they were polite and respectful.

We need to place a huge focus on preserving the beauty and open spaces and clean air that attracted so many of us to call C.S. home. That means putting a value on trails and parks and what they have to offer (instead of having them always be first on the chopping block), working to make public transportaion the major mode of travel, attracting people to the region who celebrate diversity, and thinking first about limiting growth instead of reacting to pressure from builders and other businesses.

I would like to see a community where children's education is connected to the real world by business, civic, the arts, and city government participating in direct instruction and mentoring of all students.
